To be eligible for D7 visa all you need to prove is that you have a clean criminal record and proof that you are have a monthly income of at least €705 for main applicant. This can be a pension, income from real estate or any other investments. This must be discussed in detail and case to case basis.
The D7 visa enables the respective holder to obtain a residence permit in Portugal for a period of two years, which can then be renewed for successive periods of three years and can be converted into a permanent residence permit after 5 years.
Meanwhile, business owners, contractors or freelancers whose income comes from their business activities can obtain D2 visa for entrepreneurs.
Both visas provide a path to the EU in 5 years.

One may have a running business in their country of origin and want to open a branch in Portugal.
One has to prove to have available financial means in Portugal, which could include those arising from financing obtained from banks in Portugal. This must include the capacity to sustain one’s self and the business during the intended stay in Portugal.
One must have a share capital which an initial capital to ensure that the company is able to function even if it is not generating profits. A lot of small businesses in Portugal have an average share capital of 5000€
One must demonstrate by a structured entrepreneurial plan/project the intention to carry out an investment or starting an innovative start-up company integrated into a certified business, that will be reviewed for its economic, social and cultural impact and demonstrate that the business will prosper and lead to economic growth.
Prove that you have already started a business in Portugal or have the ability to do so.
It may be applied/granted by/to by EU or non-EU citizens who wish to work in a self-employed capacity provided the meet the following criteria:
One must have a contract or written proposal for a contract to provide services in an independent or liberal profession capacity.
One must be qualified to exercise self-employed activity when ever required.
Freelancers and digital nomads will have to prove that they can offer differentiated services that are relevant to Portugal.
